It’s no secret that addiction is worse than ever, devastating huge swaths of hard-working Americans. Union members serve as the backbone of our labor force and their powerful organizations are now steeping up to help in the fight. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters is flexing its muscle via shares it owns in public pharmaceutical companies through its pension and benefit funds. They’re making their views loudly known at corporate meetings and in the press, to do their part in helping stem the tide. After all, that’s the kind of effort the fight against addiction requires. It seems we can all learn an important lesson from this to get involved in any way we can. Addiction is a terrible scourge affecting us all and only together can we have the pivotal impact necessary to make the ultimate difference.
