If you were wondering if this drug has been affecting teenagers, yes it has. Many teenagers in the South Florida area have purchased this synthetic drug instead of the Molly, marijuana or synthetic marijuana they intended to buy. Although police and local legislators have combated the sell and import of the synthetic drug, the epidemic has yet to be resolved. One of the key components that makes the epidemic uncontrollable is it’s availability. Dealers are able to purchase it online from countries such as China, Pakistan and India and have them shipped directly to their doorsteps.
The article then describes exactly what our children in Broward county have been going through, “…users become psychotic and even begin to eat their own flesh. An incident reported a man breaking down the door of a police building, another found a man standing naked on his roof and yelling ‘I fell delusional, and I’m hallucinating!’ There is also a report of a man who impaled himself through the groin on a fence when he tried to climb over it.”
What this article does not do is give you the big picture of what is going on with the synthetic drug. For example, the origin chemical composition, how overdoses can be treated while awaiting medical help, and how to recognize it.
Knowledge is power! Local rehabilitation centers are fully aware of this drug and have procedures in place to begin the detox and recovery process. This is a situation that needs all of us. I am currently getting help for my marijuana addiction as well as my alcoholism, however, this Flakka epidemic is slowly becoming a deterrence for my drug use.
